CHILDREN: THE WORD ON THE STREET    
The Sesame Street Podcast is a series of free portable video episodes featuring Murray Monster and all your other favorite Sesame Street Muppets. CHILDREN: STARFALL.COM

Since its 2002 launch, this highly-rated website has been recognized by experts as one of the top literacy sites for young children. Its content is based on numerous studies and educational research and is designed to motivate and teach preschool through second grade children to read with phonics. Children have the opportunity to practice letter sounds, word recognition, and reading comprehension — all presented in a fun interactive style. Be sure to check out the parent’s section, filled with guidance on how to use the site and other helpful literacy tips.


YOUTH: GET SMART ABOUT MONEY 
    
Excellent cartoon clips that teach teens about credit cards and the difference between consumption and wealth building have been released by the Investor Education Fund, a unit of the Ontario Securities Commission.

This website is for Canadian teens who love to read. You can introduce people to the books you've read, post reviews, share your writing, and discuss your favourite (and least favourite) reads with teens and librarians

Speare is ingenious, original, and, above all else, a fun game that also teaches literacy skills. Successfully tested with a wide range of ages, 'Speare has been shown to entertain as much as it educates. It is the first educational SmartGame designed by CASP (Canadian Adaptations Of Shakespeare Project), a prototype with a wide range of learning and teaching tools.

West Coast Reader is a newspaper for adults who are improving their English reading skills. The newspaper is published from September to June.

ADULT: LEARNING RESOURCES    
Learning Resources is designed to help adults improve basic skills like reading and spelling using real-life stories on topics of interest to adults.

Current and past CNN and CBS news stories. Choose the full story, the abridged story, or the story outline. Activities: vocabulary, sequencing, multiple choice, drawing conclusions. Email your opinion and it will be added to the site.

Has your new baby received a Books for BC Babies kit?
Every baby born in BC receives a free book bag containing a board book and a music CD.

If you have not yet received a kit from a Public Health Nurse, please drop by your local library.
